Pride of the sultans who adorned their turbans, the tulip took its name from “Tulipan” which means Turban. In Europe in the 17th century, the tulip became a luxury item reaching exorbitant prices to the point that with a single bulb, it was possible to afford 4 paintings by Rembrandt.
