Description
illustration of Diaghilev's opera "La Péri" illustrating Alexander The Great or Iskender in Persian. This one who sets out in search of immortality because mages predict a near end for him. Iskender goes to the ends of the Earth, he meets a sleeping peri who holds the Flower of immortality, He steals it from her, and in doing so, he awakens her. Without this Flower, she cannot reach heaven and find her place in the light of Ormuzd. Then Peri bewitches her thief with a seductive dance and takes back her property. Iskender understands that he must die.
