Did you know : The rarest shells become luxury items. In Paris, in 1736, a large auction of shells was held which brought together many collectors and demonstrated a new style, rococo. Sculpted, gilded, painted shells, with their scrolls and arabesques, decorate the furniture of private mansions in Europe.
